Wearable arts

Last night we did our end of term wearable arts show. It was really fun and it was so nice to see how much effort everyone put in. Here is our speech along with a few photos of our overall design. I soar down to get a drink of water or some fish to eat, but what I get is plastic. This is our wearable art modeled by Scarlett Noble. Our title for this bruised, bloody bird is called Flock of Plastic. We named it Flock of Plastic because we are afraid that when we look out our windows instead of seeing beautiful birds flying together in flocks, we will see plastic bags and other plastic products. We have been focusing on the concept of the many birds who die because of our toxic rubbish. Approximately 1 million seabirds die from plastic each year. A plastic bag can kill multiple animals because the soft plastic takes so long to disintegrate. Many of these birds accidentally eat plastic and other debris floating in the ocean, mistaking it for food. It’s probable that it injures or kills the birds by cutting their stomachs or taking up space, making them feel full when they are actually starving for real food. The skirt and wings are made out of plastic bags because plastic bags are the main cause of death for the birds, especially the albatross. The top half of the creation of our wearable art is made out of spoons to create a feathered effect. Spoons are also a danger to the birds because the pointy handle end of the spoon will cut their stomach lining, and intestines, resulting in the bleeding, that is why we have added the blood. It is dripping down her body because it is a cause of the plastic ripping her apart, starving her. The bruised heart in the middle of the chest represents the pain it feels from the plastic, killing her kind, some even being her own children. The Albatross is critically endangered because of the decisions we are making. There is an estimated population of only 100, of one of the 22 species. This is a representation of what happens to birds when they are getting a drink of water or just looking for some food. I hope you see this, and hopefully, it had persuaded YOU to make a change. It only takes one person to make a difference.

  1. Hi Grace
I am your blog buddy Alexis, I am really impressed because you have some really important points in there how our world is getting polluted. What you made looks really cool and lot's of hard work has gone into that. Maybe at the end of your blog you could put a question to spark a conversation in the comments.
